WHAT EXERCISE IS BENEFICIAL FOR SOMEONE WITH OR POST CANCER?

QI GONG
Qi Gong is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine, that uses physical activity and meditation to harmonise the body, mind and spirit.
Several studies indicate that chronic inflammation is associated with cancer incidence and its  progression and the practice of Qi Gong  has been proven to reduce inflammation significantly.
If incorporated as part of the  Cancer patients treatment regime it can heighten their spirit, energy and immunity leading to positive outcomes for the patient.
For example in 2011 The University of Sydney research has found that Cancer patients who used the  5000-year-old combination of gentle exercise and meditation experienced significantly higher wellbeing levels, better libido, improved cognitive functioning and less inflammation compared to a control group  that deteriorated in all of these areas.
TAI CHI
Tai Chi consists of slow-flowing, choreographed meditative movements with poetic names like “wave hands like clouds,” dragons stirring up the wind,” and  “swallow skimming the pond” that evoke the natural world.
Tai Chi focuses on overall fitness, muscle strength, flexibility and balance.
Suitable for all age groups and for all stages of health.
Recent research from the University of Missouri  suggests that the practice of Tai Chi   may promote gains in neuropsychological functioning, in addition to marked improvements in the physical and psychological health of the person post cancer treatment.
