BAN LAN GEN

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and the first thing I did was go and dissolve some Ban Lan Gen granules in some hot water and drink.

Ban Lan Gen is always in my cupboard and everyone in my family has used it for this reason whether they be a toddler or adult. It would actually rate as high in my medicine cabinet. And this is why! Its botanical name is isatis and its function from a chinese herbal point of view is to clear heat. By this I mean inflammation. its actual target area is the throat in particular but it is indicated for any upper respiratory tract infection. From a western point of view it is a herb that is a natural antibiotic but also incredibly boasts anti viral qualities too. This is where herbal medicine holds its real strength and part of the reason why I feel my own gp bills are kept down. As today most infections are viral in nature. And antibiotics are indicated for bacterial problems in general.

Now to really sing its praise it also has an effect on itchy red skin and I have used it to treat my daughter when she had chicken pox and when my son had infantile eczema that was red and itchy.
